About Me
When You Are Accused of Driving Drunk

Drunk driving is a very serious problem in our society, but occasionally law enforcement goes overboard as it seeks to round up people who have broken the law by driving while intoxicated. If you believe you have been falsely accused of drunk driving, you can do a lot to protect your freedom. My name is Michelle, and I work as a defense attorney. Here in my blog I am going to give you the reasons why you may be falsely accused of drunk driving and teach you exactly what to do if you find yourself in this very difficult situation.

3 Tips To Help You Get Through Your Criminal Case

Even though you try to do the right thing, there comes a time when things happen and you end up making the wrong choice. That wrong choice could prove extremely devastating to your future. Finding yourself in the middle of a criminal case can be frustrating, overwhelming and confusing. Thankfully, there are a few things you can do to help move your case along in the right direction and prevent making things worse for yourself.

Keep your mouth shut

Oftentimes, people who are picked up by the cops and on the way to jail will end up talking the whole way. It's human nature to try and defend yourself against the impending charges. While you think the cops are listening and going to convey the messages for you, they are actually documenting everything you say. All of that information could end up being used against you in your trial later on down the road. The best thing you can do is to refrain from speaking at all. That way, there is nothing that they can try and use against you.

Don't try to run from the charges

If you were shoplifting in a store or drinking and driving when the cops arrived, don't try to outrun them. It never turns out (or looks) good. It will always end up coming back on you later on when they slap another charge on you for fleeing and eluding. Instead of making things better for yourself, you are actually making them far worse. Your best bet is to suck it up and face the music, while letting your lawyer do the rest for you.

Listen to what your lawyer has to say

Instead of trying to act like you know everything, listen to the advice of your lawyer. They can advise you when you need to plead guilty and when you need to remain silent. They are the ones who are going to negotiate a lighter sentence or work to get the charges dropped altogether for you. You can get things done far quicker and with less complication if you simply listen to what they are saying and stick with their rules and guidelines.

Sure, being in the middle of a criminal case isn't exactly the best situation to find yourself in, but that doesn't mean there isn't an answer to be able to put it all behind you and move on. Take it one step at a time and follow the suggestions above to prevent unnecessary strife and chaos. Talk to a criminal attorney to learn more.
